What is conference Calling?
A Conference Call is a telephone call in which the calling party wishes to have more than one called party listen and participate in a conversation over the phone. It is often referred to as an ATC (Audio Tele-Conference).
Callers connect either by dialing into a "conference bridge" (a specialized type of equipment that links telephone lines), or by using a special telephone number set up for that purpose.
Most organizations use a specialized service provider for conference calls. These service providers maintain the conference bridge, (ours being 742713#) and provide the phone numbers (see the side panel) used to access the meeting or conference call.
Why do we have conference calls?
Generally we have conference calls over this site for a few specific purposes.
1) For new members to be able to speak personally with an administrator of this website, so they may get more information about this site or eating disorders in general on a personal level that cannot be found by just using text.
2) For members of the website who live in various areas all over the planet to be able to connect over the telephone can have natural conversations without delays that can sometimes be had in the chat room audio because of differences in everyone internet services.
3) For moderators and administrators to all share information together over the phone.
Will it cost me anything to call the number?
Simply put: no. There is no fee to use the conference call number on this website. However, keep in mind that although there are numbers based in your country to phone you do have to make sure that you have a phone plan that allows free long distance calls in your country or you will be billed by your phone company for dialing a long distance number.
Okay, so I would like to join in! When do these calls take place?
The conference calls take place whenever a group is willing to have them, all you have to do is contact an administrator to dial in first and they will start up the conference line for you!
